Useful Packing Tips for Different Items

Packing is always a pain in the neck, a chore that one rather go without, but necessary nevertheless. Improper packing of the things that you desire to move can turn your overall moving experience into a nightmare. But there is no need to worry if you keep some simple tips in mind.

Firstly, you need a good tape gun and plenty of tape. You can buy strong garbage bags or just plain plastic sheeting. Be careful to buy bags in different colors. It is better to sort the items that one is going to pack and put them in the bags, jotting down what each bag contains. Label the packages color wise so that you will know where to place them as soon as you reach your new home. Wherever necessary special instructions like ‘this side up’ and ‘fragile’ should be clearly marked on the bags or boxes.

To pack special items you may need special boxes that are appropriate to hold the items inside. Smaller things should go into small boxes as they do not waste space and can easily be stacked in a corner. The weight of each box or package ought to be reasonable. It is wiser to put big objects in bigger boxes and small ones in smaller ones. You can save a lot packing space if you can find boxes that can go under or inside furniture.

Use drawers in lieu of boxes for clothes and items that are light in weight. If your cabinets and dressers have doors, it is better to wrap them with plastic tape. Also such pieces of furniture should be protected from damage.

It is a good thing to pad fragile items with the use of clothes and socks are eminently suitable for glassware. Things like light bulbs, lamps and shades are difficult to pack properly as they need different kinds of packing materials. So it is better to separate them from less awkward items. Hardware items are usually heavy; so it is good idea to strap them inside or underneath furniture or equipment that ensure their maintenance. For items like dishes and the like, special packing materials should be used. Such material may be a little costly, but broken crockery poses no profit to the owner. Don’t be skimpy with padding either
